Fresh Water for the Nineveh Plains
On Monday, August 31, 2020, Dr. Terry Law went home to be with the Lord. For friends wishing to honor Terry’s life in a tangible way, in lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to Terry’s recent, unfinished project: Fresh Water for the Nineveh Plain.
Terry’s heart burned with love and compassion for the people of Iraq. He spent the later years of his life petitioning Iraqi leaders to include religious freedom in their new constitution. In the process, he earned the respect and admiration of many influential leaders. With their support and blessing, Terry was working to create for Christians of the Nineveh Plains a safe haven where they could live and worship in peace, without fear of reprisal.
North of Iraq’s Kurdistan’s capital, Erbil, lies the Nineveh Plain. This region is the location of the biblical city of Nineveh where Jonah preached, and where today the majority of Iraq’s remaining Christian population lives in small villages dotting the landscape. It is also the region where ISIS attacked and slaughtered whole populations, driving tens of thousands more to die in the searing heat of the desert. Today, the Nineveh Plain is a collection of scattered villages, some thousands of years old and others brand new. But the one thing they all lack is fresh and safe drinking water.
Before his passing, Terry had spent many months preparing for a return trip to Iraq when Covid restrictions lifted. His humanitarian heart wanted to do something tangible and lasting for those of the Nineveh Plains. In partnership with Joe Hurston of Air Mobile Ministries and several friends and pastors, Terry planned to initially provide ten portable water filtration systems for villages lacking a safe water source.
The water filtration system Terry chose is a powerful machine with the capacity to filter water from any (dirty, contaminated) source to meet the hydration needs of up to 500 people per day. These water systems eliminate waterborne illnesses; allow people to redirect healthcare resources (needed to treat illness due to inadequate drinking water) to schools, orphanages, etc.; and most importantly in Terry’s mind, to empower believers and to open doors for the Gospel.
The cost of one water filtration system is $3000, which covers the machine, spare parts and maintenance. As we have observed in other nations around the world such as Haiti, this water filtration system is a life-changing and worthy investment that will last for many years to come.
In Terry’s honor, we will complete this final mission. To join us, please DONATE HERE or send contributions marked “Water for Nineveh,” payable to:
